Not sure if I mentioned it before, but since October I've been working half-time at the local Barnes & Noble bookstore, usually driving to and from work because my hours often don't match the bus schedule well. In November I had a spell of car trouble and did a lot of walking and bus-riding for a couple of weeks, which has helped avoid any holiday weight-gain (so far).
The store closed at 6pm on Christmas Eve, and I was back at work at 8am the day after Christmas. Customers had been friendly and pleasant up until the last hour, when some impatient, irritable or scammy types started to show up and I was glad to close up shop and get away. It's been busy all season, which seems to surprise some people. Book-lovers still have their own refuges from the high-tech world, and they're still spending a lot of money on hard-copy books.
But I haven't been out on my bike in a month and I'm starting to feel weak and sore in the legs. Time for some re-hab yoga or tai chi or whatever, and then I can get back out on the road.
